Police spokesperson in Montclair Captain Cherly Pillay said the crime-prevention operations have been intensified in the policing precinct.

“As safety and security is the responsibility of the police, we have met with force multipliers, namely the metropolitan police, security companies and the Montclair Community Policing Forum to enhance visibility,” said Pillay.

Pillay said the police will also engage in targeted operations at second-hand dealerships, licensed liquor outlets and unlicensed outlets.

“Police will be clamping down on any illegal activities in the policing precinct with force multipliers which will hold roadblocks to ensure the safety of all motorists and pedestrians.

“Compliance in terms of the Liquor Act will be closely monitored. Liquor is a major contributor to contact crimes that influence the behaviour of people in society. Such behaviour leads to an increase in gender-based violence, domestic violence, rape and other sexual offences. We must adopt a holistic approach to addressing social ills which are influenced by substance abuse. Montclair Police remain committed to enhancing service delivery to the community that we have been called to serve,” she said.

Meanwhile, metro police urged all motorists with outstanding traffic and by-law fines to settle them immediately as the tracing team attached to metro police is currently visiting people at their homes to issue warrants.
