Alleged cellphone thieves caught in Merebank

The suspects were caught a few minutes later after they robbed a teenager of his cellphone on the corner of Krishna Rabilal and Bhuj Road.

THREE alleged cellphone thieves were apprehended in Merebank after a teenager was robbed of his cellphone on the corner of Krisna Rabilall and Bhuj Road in Merebank recently.

According to PT Alarms, officers were patrolling in the area when they received a call for assistance.

“Within minutes, the suspects were apprehended and handed to officers from Wentworth Police. The suspects were in possession of marijuana and a knife,” the statement read.

Police spokesperson in Wentworth Captain Mbuso Gumede was not available to comment.

In a separate incident, police at the Brighton Beach Police Station are investigating a case of burglary following a burglary incident that happened on Millet Avenue on The Bluff recently.

According to the information received from sources, two off-duty police officers responded to a house burglary in progress. However, the suspect fled the scene. Jewellery, gadgets and cosmetics were stolen.

KZN police spokesperson Constable Thenjiwe Ngcobo said no arrests have been made, and a police investigation is underway.
