Home Affairs extends hours for matrics as finals loom

In a bid to support matriculants as final examinations approach, the Department of Home Affairs will be operating on Saturday (October 12).

THE Department of Home Affairs is set to extend its operating hours to include Saturday, October 12, to accommodate matriculants who may still require identification documents prior to their final exams.

This decision made by the Minister of Home Affairs, Dr Leon Schreiber, was welcomed by the Minister of Basic Education, Siviwe Gwarube. She praised the co-operation between government departments, stressing the importance of having all matriculants in possession of valid identification documents.

“This is excellent work of collaboration between government departments, putting the needs of our learners first. Matriculants are at a very critical stage in their school curriculum, and having valid identification to sit for their exams is of paramount importance. This shows a high level of commitment by us jointly to the success of our learners as we progress them onto the next stage of their lives,” said Gwarube.

The Department of Home Affairs announced that the following services would be availed to matriculants during the Saturday opening:

On October 12, all Home Affairs offices across the country will open between 08:00 and 13:00.
