Around 200 fishing enthusiasts participated. The competition started early in the morning around 06:00, and competitors were given up until noon to catch the heaviest fish. After fishing, they took a break to share a meal and got to enjoy the company of other like-minded fisherfolk.

Mitesh Harricharan, the forum’s media liaison, said it was a solid day of fishing and fun. “Competition was indeed fierce with very decent catches in all divisions. The turnout was fantastic, and all who attended had a wonderful time with the friendly atmosphere and pleasant weather,” he said.

The heaviest catch in the men’s division was a butter blacktail while the boys reeled in a blacktail and the girls reeled in a karanteen.

The forum is excitedly planning another friendly fishing competition for December. The entry fee is R20 which also provides you with a meal and a drink after the competition.
