MEMBERS of the Bluff Women’s Guild attended the gender-based violence (GBV) presentation hosted by Brighton Beach Police.
The objective of the presentation was to bring about awareness of the susceptibility of aged persons to being victims of GBV and domestic violence being imposed upon them by those known and unknown to them.

Police spokesperson for the Brighton Beach Police Station, Captain Louise le Roux, launched the empowerment programme and delivered an empowerment message related to the challenges that elderly people are facing daily. Le Roux also created an Aged at Risk education care pack for each resident.
The pack contained the following:
- Aged at Risk information guide. It explains the categories of abuse while providing safety tips when home and occupying public spaces, including safe shopping.
- Victim empowerment flyer.
- Domestic Violence information guide. It explains the various forms of domestic violence and the purpose of and procedures when applying for a protection order.
- GBV information brochure explaining the various forms of GBV.
- Telephone bookmark with emergency contact number, including the GBV helpline contact details.
- Hope empowerment bookmark. This card has the purpose of encouraging the aged to remain hopeful when challenges befall them.
“Personal safety, public safety, home safety and online fraud prevention were facilitated for those in attendance. About 25 women participated in multiple lucky draws, with winners receiving mini fragrance products from Justine. The major draw prize included a daily women’s devotional empowerment gift set,” said Le Roux.
