Cupcakes of Hope: Helping out with one cupcake at a time

Celebrate National Cupcake Day by visiting the Hillside Mall on the Bluff on Saturday for a sweet treat and to help raise funds for children with cancer.

CUPCAKES of Hope will bring a little sweetness to Hillside Mall on The Bluff to commemorate International Childhood Cancer Awareness month and National Cupcake Day on September 28.

The event aims to build awareness around children with cancer while raising funds by selling cupcakes to assist children with their cancer medical needs.

Sandy Cipriano, founder of Cupcakes of Hope, said, “Cupcakes of Hope directly makes monthly, and sometimes weekly, payments to the medical providers of cancer patients. Additionally, volunteers deliver care packages to hospitalised patients. The funds cover a range of needs, from items like wheelchairs to critical surgeries, addressing the physical, emotional and medical needs of patients.”

Cipriano said that National Cupcake Day is one of their flagship events, and it’s fantastic to see the support that comes in every year from the community and businesses.

“Last year, we assisted with 2 859 financial requests for children with cancer, we delivered 2 640 activity care bags to 20 paediatric oncology wards across South Africa and, we surprised 120 patients with birthday gifts to celebrate their very special day. Our goal for this year is to raise R2 million so we can keep up with the increasing demand,” said Cipriano.

If you are interested in contributing to the cause, you can visit the Pick ’n Pay at Hillside Mall on September 28. Alternatively, you can donate at www.cupcakesofhope.org/donate.
