Non-profit Widowed and Single Parents laces up learners

The donated school shoes were distributed among 11 schools in Durban as well as two children homes.

IN a touching act of generosity and community support, Widowed and Single Parents (Wasp), a local non-profit organisation founded by Brian Naidoo, made a significant donation of school shoes to 11 schools across Durban, including Merebank, and to two children’s homes.

The donation, provided by Bata SA, is part of Wasp’s ongoing mission to assist students who struggle to afford new school shoes. Beyond the shoes, Wasp also contributed serviettes, schoolbooks, and photocopy paper to several schools in the area, further aiding the educational needs of the community.

Naidoo shared his joy in being able to help those in need. “It is incredibly fulfilling to assist learners who are unable to afford new school shoes. Seeing their reactions is truly heartwarming, precious and gratifying,” he said.

One of the schools that felt the impact of Wasp’s generosity was St Mary’s Primary School, which they visited on August 19. Principal Roshan Ramdheen expressed heartfelt gratitude for the donation.

“We are overjoyed and deeply thankful for this incredible gift from Wasp. Their support not only improves the daily lives of our learners but also strengthens the sense of community and care that we aim to cultivate within our school,” Ramdheen shared.

Wasp continued its outreach at Merebank Secondary School on August 21, where the response was equally appreciative. Principal Kishan Bridgelal expressed his gratitude on behalf of the school.

“I would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Bata and Wasp for their generous donation of school shoes. Your support has made a profound difference in the lives of our indigent learners, allowing them to attend school with confidence and dignity. We are incredibly grateful for your commitment to supporting our school,” said Bridgelal.

Wasp’s efforts underscore the vital role of community-driven initiatives in fostering a nurturing and supportive environment for the next generation.
