The Women’s Month breakfast was aimed to help Blue Bundu Brigade raise the necessary funds so they can continue to take in and care for stray or neglected dogs.

IN celebration of Women’s Month, the Blue Bundu Brigade, an organisation dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming animals, hosted a special fundraising breakfast on August 24 at the MasterChef Coffee Shop in Eco Park on The Bluff.

The event brought together women who share a passion for animal welfare and empowerment, creating a vibrant atmosphere of solidarity and support.

Karen Janisch, the director of Blue Bundu Brigade, opened the event by welcoming the attendees and emphasising the importance of unity in supporting causes that matter deeply to them.

A highlight of the morning was an inspiring talk by Candice Davis, a Mrs SA 2024 finalist. Davis, who recently adopted her dog, Kai, from Blue Bundu Brigade, delivered a powerful speech titled ‘Challenges to Triumphs’. Her words struck a chord with the audience as she spoke about overcoming obstacles and using her platform to uplift others.

Davis expressed a deep connection to the cause, sharing how adopting Kai made the event especially meaningful for her. “Empowering women and using my voice to uplift others is at the core of who I am. Supporting Blue Bundu Brigade in their mission to give animals a second chance is an honour. They rescue strays whose lives were nearly cut short, and with my platform, I aim to amplify their work and raise awareness,” she said.

The event also included donation draws in partnership with Bluff Rescue Kennels and a fundraising raffle organised by Blue Bundu Brigade. Janisch noted that the event exceeded expectations, with the initial 50-seat booking expanding to 67 attendees due to high demand. Unfortunately, the venue’s capacity meant some interested guests had to be turned away.

Despite these limitations, the fundraiser was a tremendous success. Both Blue Bundu Brigade and Bluff Rescue Kennels received R2 000 from the proceeds, which Janisch mentioned would go toward essential needs for the rescue dogs, such as veterinary care and food.

Reflecting on the day, Janisch expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed and supported the cause, making the event a memorable and impactful celebration of women and their dedication to animal welfare.
