MEMBERS of the Wentworth Police arrested a man (32) in possession of a 9mm firearm along Percy Johnson Road on August 27. The arrest was made during routine patrols following a tip-off that the police received from the Crime Intelligence Unit about a man in possession of an illegal firearm in the area.
The spokesperson for eThekwini District, Captain Carmen Rhynes, said the officers swiftly responded, located the suspect, and arrested him.

“Upon inspecting him, a brown-and-black pistol, along with a silver magazine, was recovered from his waistband, concealed under his clothing. The individual was promptly arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm,” said Rhynes.
eThekwini District Commissioner Major General Makhosazana Victoria Kheswa applauded the police for their swift reaction.
“I am gratified that an illegal firearm has been removed from the streets of Wentworth. The removal of such weapons plays a crucial role in saving lives,” said Kheswa.
The suspect is due to appear in court this week facing charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm.
