The event offered those in need the chance to select essential items free of charge. The shopping day initiative was a huge success with over 200 attendees benefiting from the event.

Spearheaded by the organisation’s founder, Liziwe Mkhulisi, the event was aimed at helping individuals and families in need by allowing them to select essential items free of charge.

Mkhulisi shared that the event was thoughtfully organised to ensure fairness for all attendees. “We allowed 10 shoppers in at a time, with each person permitted to pick 10 items. After one group exited, the next group entered, and we repeated this process until everyone had their turn. Following that, shoppers were invited to take 15 items each, and finally, we opened up for everyone to take as many items as they liked without any security checks. We also provided plastic bags for those who didn’t have their own,” she said.

Eleanor Stoffels was overjoyed with her pick of a bowl.

Along with the shopping experience, the organisation offered refreshments. “Thanks to a generous donation from SA Harvest, we were able to provide fresh oranges to every shopper in addition to their chosen items,” Mkhulisi added.

The event featured a diverse selection of pre-loved items, including clothing, shoes, blankets, bedding, curtains, kitchenware, a two-plate stove, a vacuum cleaner, buckets, underwear, scarves, caps, and assorted bags. Mkhulisi noted the overwhelming generosity of the community, with over 40 bags filled with items and several boxes of donations.

The day was a tremendous success, benefiting 179 adults and 48 children.

Warming Our Hearts Through Feeding continues to make a meaningful difference by uniting the community to support those in need.
