The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) has warned of a cold front sweeping across southern KZN today, bringing with it intense southerly to south-westerly winds. These winds may cause localised disruptions to beachfront activities and pose a risk of damage to homes and temporary structures.
Weather forecaster Nhlanhla Sithole from the South African Weather Service confirmed that heavy winds will persist throughout Durban and other areas of the province today.
“The South African Weather Service has issued a level two weather warning. We anticipate that the winds will continue moving north, though they are expected to be slightly less intense than last night’s conditions,” said Sithole.

Cogta spokesperson Senzelwe Mzila has urged residents to secure their properties and belongings.
“Small boat operators are advised to refrain from venturing out to sea, and beachgoers should avoid the water during this period. Our disaster management teams remain on high alert and will monitor the situation closely,” said Mzila.
The ongoing high winds are now impacting parts of The Bluff, with the eThekwini Fire Department working to control a bushfire that ignited near Dirkie Uys Primary School on Hollesley Road and Umbria Road.
Ward 66 Councillor Zoë Solomon has reported that while the winds are causing noticeable gusts, the smoke from the fire remains contained.
KwaZulu-Natal is still dealing with the aftermath of a recent tornado that devastated north of Durban, leaving considerable destruction in its wake. In response, residents from The Bluff had been actively supporting tornado victims by donating food and clothing.
