Darian Smith, the founder of Community Fathers, highlighted the comprehensive nature of the EmpowerU programme. “EmpowerU is designed to deliver personalised career guidance, access to crucial resources and numerous opportunities for both personal and professional growth,” said Smith. “By leveraging the expertise and dedication of community fathers, the programme seeks to equip participants with the essential skills and insights needed for long-term success.”

The launch was celebrated with a lively parents’ evening at Blue Roof Life Spaces, drawing a significant crowd of parents eager to support their children and learn more about the initiative. Initially intended to serve 100 matriculants, the programme’s overwhelming success and enthusiastic community response have led to its expansion, now including all matriculants in Wentworth. To accommodate this growth, additional community support will be crucial. Smith is confident that with sustained backing, EmpowerU can make a lasting impact on Wentworth’s youth, equipping them with the tools to thrive and positively influence their community.

“At its core, EmpowerU is built on the belief that education and mentorship are key to unlocking the potential of young individuals,” Smith explained. “The programme offers a structured framework of mentorship, community service and engagement, enabling participants to gain valuable skills and contribute to their community, fostering a cycle of growth.”
