Jarryd Watson, the artistic director of the Wentworth Arts and Culture Organisation, expressed his joy over the event’s success.

“We had an incredible turnout with over 1 000 attendees,” Watson said. The festival showcased a vibrant mix of dance styles, including hip-hop, contemporary, African, Bollywood and other genres, performed by various dance studios and groups from across KwaZulu-Natal.

A standout moment of the festival was an innovative performance, a first in South Africa, featuring disabled wheelchair-bound dancers elevated 6 to 7 feet off the ground using rigging and flyers. This display of talent added a unique and inspiring element to the event.

Watson noted that the funds raised will support the organisation’s youth development programmes, their special needs disabled training and development programme and their efforts to help disadvantaged children access performing arts and arts education.

He highlighted the artistic and cultural significance of the festival. “Staging the festival in the grandeur of the Opera Theatre was a remarkable experience,” he added.

The Durban Dance Movement Festival remains a vital platform for diverse dance expressions, fostering community spirit and artistic innovation in the region.
