Reunion for former employees sparks old connections

Residents from various areas, including The Bluff, Wentworth, Merebank and Jacobs, attended the reunion.

THE once-bustling factory of Metal Press was brought back to life in a spirited reunion held on July 27.

Former staff gathered for a superb braai, marking a vibrant continuation of efforts to reconnect with long-lost colleagues nearly three decades after the company’s closure.

One of the former employees, who hails from Wentworth, Paul Naidoo, said the event was more than just a casual get-together.

“It ignited a movement among former employees to seek out and reunite with old colleagues. Following the successful brunch, word spread, and the effort to locate and reconnect with Metal Press staff gained momentum. The Metal Press group chat boasts a database of almost 60 former employees actively participating in the reunion initiative. It was a heartwarming reminder of the strong bonds formed during our years at the company, and it provided a platform for rekindling old friendships and sharing fond memories. The gathering was marked by laughter, shared stories and the delectable aroma of a well-prepared braai,” said Naidoo.

The reunion, which drew a crowd of enthusiastic former employees, was a testament to the enduring camaraderie among the former Metal Press team.

This gathering was a follow-up to an initial meet-and-greet brunch held at Suncoast Casino on May 13, 2023, where about 15 former employees laid the groundwork for rekindling their connections.

Organisers are keen on extending their reach further and are actively seeking to connect with additional former staff members.
