Honouring Mandela with sandwich drive

Learners at Impact Christian Academy undertook the task of bringing in their own peanut butter and bread to prepare and distribute the sandwiches for Mandela Day.

IMPACT Christian Academy marked Mandela Day with a heartwarming and impactful initiative, embodying the spirit of giving and community service. In a week-long effort leading up to Mandela Day, the school’s learners and families rallied to support those in need by contributing peanut butter and bread donations.

Learners ranging from as young as three years old to those in matric came together to make a difference. Principal Kerry Holland expressed her pride in the initiative, stating, “All our learners brought in peanut butter and bread donations during the week, and on Mandela Day, our learners got a chance to make sandwiches for those in need. We set up a workstation so each child could make a few sandwiches with an extra touch of love!”

The drive was a resounding success, with the school managing to collect 40 loaves of bread and prepare 360 sandwiches. These were donated to ‘Warming the Hearts Through Feeding’, a local charity based on The Bluff dedicated to alleviating hunger in the community.

Holland emphasised the importance of such projects, saying, “Food is a basic right of every human being. We wanted to run a project where we could feed and assist people in our very own community. This way, we could encourage all learners to get involved and do our part to help end hunger. What a privilege it is to be able to give a helping hand. I am very proud of all our learners, teachers and parents who helped make a difference!”
