The raid was prompted by complaints from the school’s management and the school governing body, who reported concerns over drug possession, distribution and consumption among learners on the school grounds.

During the operation, which began early in the morning, eight classrooms were meticulously inspected. A total of 288 learners were searched, and teachers on-site seized 104 mobile devices from the learners. The devices were confiscated as part of the effort to curb illegal activities and maintain order on the premises.

Captain Louise le Roux, spokesperson for the Brighton Beach Police Station, explained the significance of the operation.

“The complaints received from the school management and governing body highlighted pressing issues related to drug possession and misuse among learners. This operation was crucial in addressing these concerns,” said Le Roux.
