New dome cameras keep criminals in check

In a bid to curb crime on The Bluff, ET Rapid Response looks to bring their dome camera project to various parts of The Bluff.

ET RAPID Response has initiated a significant project aimed at enhancing community safety by installing dome cameras throughout The Bluff. This initiative, led by Norman Hogg, co-owner of ET Rapid Response, entails strategically placing six new cameras across the area.

The project has already seen progress with the successful installation of two cameras, one on Marine Drive and another on Nirvana Road. Hogg emphasised that these cameras will be installed and monitored by ET Rapid Response, providing essential support to the community by offering access to footage and improving surveillance capabilities.

“Our goal is to assist the community when they need access to footage or require area surveillance,” Hogg stated. “A member from ET Rapid Response conducted a survey within the community, and it became clear that there were numerous crimes related to fence-hopping and other street-related incidents. These cameras will act as a deterrent, making criminals aware that the area is under constant watch.”

Sidney Govindasamy, a member of The Bluff Community Police Forum (CPF), expressed strong support for the project. “We, as The Bluff CPF, welcome the installation of street cameras. They serve as a deterrent, and prevention is always better than trying to find a solution afterwards. Cameras help you feel safe when out and about as they are a deterrent to criminals and those wishing to engage in anti-social behaviour.”

Govindasamy further elaborated on the benefits of video surveillance, noting that areas with cameras tend to experience reduced crime rates. For further information on camera access or queries, contact Norman Hogg on 082 449 3724.
