Man shot dead in alleged hijacking incident in Jacobs

The victim, believed to be a foreigner, sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his body.

A MAN was shot dead during an apparent hijacking incident at the intersection of Bluff and Chamberlain roads in Jacobs this morning (July 3).

According to the spokesperson for ALS Paramedics, Garrith Jamieson, the incident happened at around 06:16.

“Paramedics were called to the scene of the shooting and arrived to find SAPS on scene with the area cordoned off. Paramedics were shown to a male believed to be in his thirties who had sustained gunshot wounds to his chest. Paramedics assessed the man, however, he had sustained fatal injuries, and there was nothing the paramedics could do for him, and he was declared deceased on the scene.

“It is alleged that he was hijacked, however, SAPS will be investigating this incident further,” said Jamieson.

Police spokesperson for eThekwini District Captain Carmen Rhynes said, “It is believed that the deceased, a foreigner, went to set up his mobile store at the corners of Chamberlain and Bluff Roads in Jacobs. At some point between these times, he was hijacked by unknown suspects. It is suspected that he tried to fend off the culprit/s but was shot on the upper left side of his abdomen and died at the scene. He was discovered by a passerby. His vehicle that was taken is a blue VW Golf. A case of murder and carjacking have been opened and will be investigated by Brighton Beach Police Detectives.”
