The suspect apprehended for drug possession has been linked to an attempted murder case in Wentworth earlier this month.

A TWENTY-YEAR-OLD suspect found in possession of drugs has been tied to an ongoing attempted murder investigation in Wentworth. The suspect, whose identity is being withheld pending his court appearance, was arrested early this week by the ‘B Relief’ unit of the Wentworth Police Station.

According to Captain Mbuso Gumede, spokesperson for the Wentworth police, the arrest occurred during a routine patrol along Silver Tree Road in Wentworth.

“Members of B Relief were conducting routine patrols in the Wentworth area when they spotted the suspect with other men on Silver Tree Road. Upon noticing the police approach, the group attempted to flee,” Captain Gumede said.

A foot chase ensued, resulting in the arrest of the suspect. Upon searching him, the police found four small, plastic wrappings containing a white powder believed to be cocaine, along with a sum of cash suspected to be proceeds from drug sales.

“Subsequent checks at the station revealed that the suspect is also wanted in connection with an attempted murder case registered at the Wentworth Police Station which occurred on June 1.

“The suspect was taken into custody, and all seized evidence has been securely stored as part of the ongoing investigations. This arrest marks a critical breakthrough for the police, linking the suspect to both drug-related offences and a serious violent crime. Investigations into both matters are ongoing as the police work to build their case against the individual. Further details are expected to emerge as the legal process unfolds,” said Gumede.
