Manager Youandi Gilain emphasised the urgent need for support to ensure the team can maintain its competitive edge and provide a safe, welcoming environment for players.

“One of our biggest needs is to get the shields and tackle bags fixed,” said Gilain. “Most bags need to be restitched as they have come undone over time. It’s so important to have them fixed so we can prepare during practice for our games.”

The condition of training equipment is pivotal for the team’s preparation and safety. Worn-out gear not only hinders effective practice but also poses a risk of injury. Alongside equipment repairs, the team’s changing rooms are in dire need of refurbishment.

“Our changing rooms need to have a makeover, such as a paint, [and the fixing of] door handles and locks and toilet systems, etc,” Gilain explained. “Our changing rooms are important and definitely part of our team, but at the moment, they’re not.”

In addition to equipment and facility needs, the team faces challenges with transportation for away games. Reliable transport is crucial for the team to compete in various locations and to maintain their presence in the league.

Gilain also urged the community to show their support in various ways. “I would like to ask people to like our Facebook page and support the ladies’ games when they play at home and even when they play away. If anyone is able to donate anything towards our ladies’ team, they can email managerquinsladies@gmail.com.”

Support from the community, whether through sponsorships or donations, will play a vital role in ensuring that the Harlequins Women’s Rugby Team continues to thrive and inspire.
