The event aimed to offer essentials and a sense of dignity to those in need, showcasing a diverse range of items, including clothing, toys, shoes, books and linens. Generous donations from The Bluff and nearby communities ensured the shelves were stocked with necessities for visitors to select from.

Mama Liz described the event as a culmination of collective efforts, starting with a heartfelt appeal for donations that struck a chord within the community. Volunteers poured in to sort, organise and pack the items in preparation for the big day.

Careful logistics ensured fairness and inclusivity throughout the event. Upon arrival, attendees registered, ensuring both adults and children could benefit from the community’s generosity. Attendees were ushered in groups to manage the distribution process smoothly, with each group allotted the opportunity to choose a specified number of items. Initially, ten items per person were permitted, with a rotation allowing for fifteen items per person. Finally, after everyone had been served, attendees were encouraged to take any additional items they needed, without restrictions.

Mama Liz emphasised that the event was driven by compassion and a desire to support those in need who had long been seeking assistance. The free shopping day aimed not only to provide material goods but also to affirm the dignity and worth of every individual who entered.

Liziwe Mkhulisi, founder of Warming The Hearts Through Feeding, was overjoyed at the support on the day.

Reflecting on the event’s success, Mama Liz expressed gratitude to the community whose unwavering support made it all possible. Each item shared served as a testament to the kindness and generosity prevalent within The Bluff and its surrounding areas.
