Life coaches form part of Brighton Beach Victim Friendly Unit

The Brighton Beach Victim Friendly Unit is set to expand its services with the inclusion of life coaches who are meant to guide the victims after traumatic events.

IN an effort to enhance support for survivors of domestic and gender-based violence (GBV), the Brighton Beach Victim Friendly Unit has introduced life coaching services.

This initiative aims to offer comprehensive assistance to individuals recovering from trauma, empowering them to regain control over their lives.

Chantal Bransgrove-Bower, coordinator of the Brighton Beach Victim Friendly Centre, highlighted the critical importance of these new services. “A trauma debrief is an immediate session held within 72 hours of a traumatic incident. It helps individuals start thinking more clearly and assists them in moving forward,” she explained.

“A life coach guides and supports you in finding your own answers. Coaching aims to bridge the gap between your current situation and your desired goals. We help transition you from contemplating action to actually taking steps,” said Bransgrove-Bower.

The life coaching programme is specifically designed to address the needs of those affected by domestic violence and GBV. Bransgrove-Bower emphasised that the main goal is to provide survivors with a platform to articulate their needs and aspirations. “Think about what you want and what steps you need to take to achieve it,” she stated.

“Overcoming these situations is challenging, and many victims have been demeaned and demoralised. Our role is to help you empower yourself, make your own decisions, and take control of your identity,” added Bransgrove-Bower.

Currently, four members of the unit are training to become certified GBV life coaches. Survivors interested in accessing these services can arrange sessions through the victim-friendly centre by contacting Chantal Bransgrove-Bower directly on 083 734 2841.
