South African beauty queen set to shine on international stage

With her sights set on the crown, she is poised to captivate hearts and inspire minds as she represents her nation with pride and elegance on the international stage

A MEREBANK teenager, Lavanya Levida Govender, has claimed the coveted title of Miss Teenager Universe South Africa 2024, at the pageant competition held at Sibaya Casino, recently.

Govender is a profound women’s activist who supports the rights and dignity of woman and children. She believes that her strength comes from her faith saying that you can achieve anything you want to just as long as you have faith, trust and belief in God and oneself.

“Winning the Miss Teenager Universe South Africa 2024 pageant was really a dream come true. The minute I was chosen as a delegate in the competition, my preparation sessions had already begun. The pageant segment prerequisite was extremely intense as there were various segments delegates being judged on public choice voting, charity events, community service, question and an answer segment.

“The competition was extremely difficult as all of the delegates that came from the nine provinces were extremely beautiful, talented and well presented. There were about 120 delegates when I initially started the journey of which intense further screening and eliminations had been processed,” she said.

Her intention is to make a difference in society by spreading peace, love, joy and happiness to everyone.

She supports schools in and around the community by distributing sanitary towels to school girls who come from disadvantaged backgrounds. She believes in mother earth and nature and her aim is to protect the environment so that the community can maintain a healthy and much less polluted lifestyle. Lavanya has been modelling from the age of seven and has advanced herself as a professional model. Her intention is to walk the catwalks of Milan and the beautiful city of Paris.

She will be representing South Africa at the upcoming Miss Teenager Universe pageant to be held this year in September in Indonesia. She said she aims to hold the South African flag on the highest level and wishes to bring victory to all of her fellow South Africans.
