Update: Missing Zimbabwean teenager found alive in Durban
Tadiwanashe Derera's family thanked all those who played a role in reuniting them with their son.
THE Zimbabwean teenager (13), who had been missing for almost 20 days, was discovered alive in Durban on Monday (April 1).
According to the family’s spokesperson, Ruth Chitimbe, Tadiwanashe Derera was found by his family and relatives along the South Beach promenade.

Chitimbe said that concerned individuals had reached out to the family, alerting them to Tadiwanashe’s presence along Durban’s Beach Front promenade. It is rumored that Tadiwanashe had fled his home to seek refuge among Durban’s street children.
Though the family refrained from commenting on Tadiwanashe’s association with the street children, sources close to them alleged that he was found in the company of Whoonga addicts.
During his disappearance, Tadiwanashe was last seen going to a local shop by neighbours in his Montclair complex on Roland Champman Drive on March 12.
Expressing profound gratitude, Chitimbe extended heartfelt thanks to all volunteers and search participants who tirelessly aided in locating the missing teenager.
“He has returned home safely and is alive. The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to all those who played a role in reuniting them with their son,” Chitimbe added.
