[Watch] Factory goes up in flames in Jacobs

Firefighters from the eThekwini Fire Department spent hours dousing the flames.

AMBULANCE and fire crews had their hands full last night (March 14) after a blaze erupted at a factory in Jacobs just before 20:00.

Spokesperson for ALS Paramedics Medical Services, Garrith Jamieson, said they received several calls about a burning factory in Jacobs on Lansdowne Road.

The fire crew worked almost three hours trying to extinguish the fire which was spreading rapidly throughout the entire factory, however, the teams managed to prevent it from spreading into adjacent factories in the area.

“On arrival at the scene paramedics found that a large factory was well alight with the eThekwini Fire Department fighting the blaze. Fortunately there were no injuries reported on the scene,” said Jamieson in a statement.

The blaze was contained just after 22:00. Fire crews continued damping the hotspots.

At this stage the events leading up to the fire are unknown however SAPS and the eThekwini Fire Department will investigate further.
