Brighton Beach Trio Task Team arrests house robbery suspect

The homeowner pursued the thief which led to his arrest and the stolen property being recovered.

THE Brighton Beach Trio Task Team successfully apprehended a suspect involved in a house robbery on Beechcroft Road on The Bluff, on February 27.

According to Captain Louise le Roux, Brighton Beach’s communications officer, the incident unfolded when a resident heard unusual sounds coming from the kitchen at around 11:45.

“As the resident walked into the kitchen, he was confronted by an unknown male wielding a knife. The suspect demanded money and his cellphone, which the resident then handed over to the suspect,” said Le Roux.

She added that the suspect gained access to the kitchen through an open door before fleeing on foot. The resident, undeterred, pursued the assailant, attracting the attention of members from the SAPS Brighton Beach Trio Task Team. Subsequently, the suspect was apprehended, and the stolen cellphone was recovered.

Captain Carmen Rhynes, spokesperson for the eThekwini District SAPS, said, “It is important to ensure that the community puts every security measure in place to prevent crimes from happening within their homes. One needs to be aware always to prevent such crimes from taking place.”

Major General Makhosazana Victoria Kheswa, the eThekwini District Commissioner, commended the Brighton Beach Trio Task Team for their swift action in apprehending the suspect and reclaiming the stolen property.
