Update: Montclair police urge businesses to be vigilant ahead of festive season following mall robbery

Business owners are urged to be on high alert and brush up on security measures ahead of the festive season.

MONTCLAIR police are urging businesses to be on high alert as we approach the festive season. This follows an armed robbery at a retail store at the Montclair Mall on Wednesday morning.

Captain Cheryl Pillay, a Montclair police spokesperson, said a case of armed robbery was being investigated.

She said it is alleged that two suspects entered the shop pretending to be customers when they accosted the manager at gunpoint.

“A further two armed suspects wearing masks entered the shop. The suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, cellular phones and clothing. The suspects fled without causing any injuries to the staff,” she said.

Colonel Trevor Small, Montclair Police station commander, said he is appealing to owners and managers of business outlets to be cautious and vigilant during the opening and closing times of businesses.

“As we approach the festive season, there will be an influx of patrons visiting the shopping malls. Criminals will be monitoring the outlets to observe your security measures before committing a crime.

“It is important to notify the security companies of your business times for the guards to increase patrols and visibility, which should serve as a deterrent,” he said.
