Armed gang robs congregants and pastor at Merebank church

According to reports from the scene, the armed men attempted to hijack another church member who drove in while the robbery was in progress.

GUNMEN in a charcoal-grey Toyota Yaris robbed a pastor and his congregation during their weekly service on Wednesday (November 8).

According to reports at PT Alarms and Security, four suspects with firearms demanded valuables from the pastor and other members of the church.

The suspects also demanded the keys to a Hilux parked at the church, which they used to escape.

Spokesperson for PT Alarms and Security Dhevan Govindasamy said in their bid to flee, the armed men attempted to hijack another church member who drove in while the robbery was in progress, but he managed to escape with no injuries.

“The suspects shattered his driver’s side window with the butt of the firearm while he was reversing to drive off. It is believed the suspects arrived in a charcoal-grey Toyota Yaris.

“The PT Alarms Chatsworth ambassador contacted the tracking company for the stolen vehicle, but it was discovered the suspects jammed the signal,” Govindsamy said.

Wentworth police are investigating.
