What’s happening on the South this Heritage weekend

There are many different events taking place over Heritage weekend.

AS South Africans get ready to celebrate Heritage Day on September 24, there are loads of events and fun family activities happening in the south of Durban over the long weekend.

To kick off the weekend, a four-day arts and heritage festival in celebration of Wentworth’s rich cultural diversity and history is set to take place at the Transhaven Centre, situated at 51 Treasure Beach Road, from September 22 to 25, starting at 10:00.

• The Montclair CPF will host its Animal Awareness Day and Heritage Day celebrations at the Yellowwood Park Sports Club on September 24, from 10:00 to 13:00. The day will include animal educational talks, free rabies vaccines and a variety of stalls and activities for the children. All are welcome. All dogs must be on a leash.

• The Abbaquar-San Royal House KZN and Abbaquar-San Dream Centre will be hosting its Khoisan Heritage Day celebrations at 61 Gardenia Road (old Silvertree Hall) in Wentworth on September 25, from 10:00 to 15:00.  There will be guest speakers, and meals will be provided. Free entry. 

• Lastly, the Harlequins Cricket Club, together with Xtreme Sports (NPC), will host its Heritage Day celebrations at 49 Garcin Place, on The Bluff, on September 25, from 07:30 to 17:00. There will be various activities for both adults and children. Some of the activities for the adults include an ultimate cook-off, bowling and closest-to-the-flag competitions. For the children, there will be a jumping castle, obstacle course, tug-of-war, egg and spoon race, and much more.
