Man shot and killed in road rage incident

The man was shot while he was in traffic on South Coast Road.

MONTCLAIR police are searching for a motorist who allegedly pursued the driver of a vehicle that cut in front of his vehicle and shot the driver, killing him along South Coast Road.

“It is alleged that the driver was travelling along the N2 Highway when another vehicle swiped in front of his vehicle, on July 18. The driver pursued the vehicle until the vehicle was caught in traffic along South Coast Road.

“A witness heard one gunshot, and she realised that the driver was fatally wounded. The deceased’s firearm was taken during this incident,” said Montclair police spokesperson Captain Cheryl Pillay.

Police are investigating a murder docket.

Station commander of Montclair Police Station Colonel Trevor Small is appealing to the public to be patient while driving as there are many contributing factors to high traffic volumes, such as peak-hour traffic and load-shedding.

“Police advise that drivers leave for their destination earlier and also stay calm and focused. Road rage can lead a person to drive fast and also change lanes which may place other motorists at risk,” added Small.
