NOW that it’s 17:00, and quite acceptable to have a well-deserved after-work drink, we can tell you about World Bartender’s Day.
Celebrated across the world on February 24, this is a day to say ‘Cheers’ to the one behind the bar – who mixes those delicious cocktails and pours the perfect draft time after time.
While the modern bar is a far cry from ye olde pub, bartending is actually one of the oldest professions in history. It is said that the first bartenders emerged in the 15th century – and barkeeps were well on the scene in the 1900s.

In honour of the special day, we visited Unity Bar in Musgrave where local bartender Terry Moyes shared his recipe for an espresso martini – it looks like the perfect pick-me-up for a Friday afternoon!
