Use your talent to start a side hustle selling handmade items

Selling crafts is a great money-making skill to have. It can be a lucrative side hustle to bring in extra money, and there are so many different crafts you can sell.

“GOD has given everyone talent – you just have to discover it, use it and earn an extra income.” These were the words of Benita Botha who manages the Pineville Junction Market.

With the economic depression, unemployment and many people losing their jobs, vendor markets have become popular for people who want to showcase and sell their products, especially handmade products.

They are also the public’s favourites as they offer music, food, crafts, books, second-hand clothing and furniture in good condition, and toys at bargain prizes, among many other things.

Botha, now a pensioner, said she started making handmade products when she was studying nursing.

“I do almost everything: Painting, sewing, woodwork, crocheting and baking,” said Botha.

She said that at first, she did it to see if it would become a success, and now that she is a pensioner, it helps her with extra income.

“By using your talent and skills, you can never go wrong – it definitely puts food on the table. No one is certain of their jobs anymore – that is what I always tell my grandchildren.”

“Definitely, do something extra for income – you can never go wrong. Life is expensive, so you can never depend on just your income.”

She added that booking a table at the market does not cost a lot of money.
