Get It getting into the community spirit

The Get It team visits the Isibukosezwe Crèche in rural Hillcrest to see the work that the Hearts in Hands Foodback is doing to help the creche that serves over 40 underprivileged children in the area.

IT was an honour for the Get It team to hand over the R13 000 raised to the Isibukosezwe Crèche, thanks to generous sponsors and the incredible support from guests at the Get It Spring Fling hosted last month.

Earlier this week, the Get It team took a trip deep into rural Hillcrest with co-ordinator of Hearts in Hands Foodbank Austin Maree and Connective Consulting’s Kim Griffith Jones, who is assisting as project manager, to visit the Isibukosezwe Crèche.

The crèche, which caters for more than 40 young children, is based in Mhlombe in the Embo Valley and falls under the Hearts in Hands Foodbank ‘Building Hope’ project. Through this project, The Heart in Hands Foodbank is dedicating time and effort to refurbishing the facility by means of installing retaining walls, structural improvements and a playground area to help the children build both gross and fine motor skills, along with core strength. The non-profit, charitable organisation also distributes toiletries and perishable and non-perishable food items to the crèche, along with a number of other special projects they support each month, including the Asivuke Soup Kitchen which feeds over 100 children from the community every week.

The Get It team extends their thanks to the event’s prize sponsors as well as to those who attended the Spring Fling and so generously donated towards their fundraising efforts. There is still so much to be done – sanding, plastering, painting, fitting the ceiling, electrical, plumbing, carpeting, building proper sleeping facilities – and they are definitely going to be lending their hands to help, too.

If you would like to make a difference by supporting the Hearts in Hands Foodbank ‘Building Hope’ drive, you can get in touch with Founder Tracy Klokie at enquiries@heartsinhands.co.za or Kim at kim@kimgriffithjones.com for a detailed project plan and more info. Every little bit counts towards making a positive impact on these little ones!
