Brighton Beach police host Child Protection Week initiative

Information guides on child protection, school bullying, cyberbullying, alcohol and drug dependency were handed to children.

COMMEMORATING Child Protection Week, Brighton Beach police held an initiative to educate children on several social ills and issues affecting them and their communities.

Brighton Beach SAPS Social Crime Prevention Unit member, Sergeant Sduduza Makaya, warned children against the smoking and chewing of tobacco.

Commencing with a static display hosted by the management and tenants of the Hillside Mall in Bluff, the collaborative initiative was held by the station’s corporate communications office and social crime prevention component, through the support of the community safety and liaison unit.

Community Safety and Liaison Unit volunteer, Nxolo Shing, with the display which warned against the intake of harmful substances.

Foam board visual aids were on display depicting the threats children are exposed to daily. The teaching aids were researched, created and developed by Brighton Beach SAPS communications officer, Captain Louise le Roux, for utilisation during various school safety initiatives hosted by the station.

Community Safety and Liaison Unit volunteer, Samkiswe Miya, warned children against playing with dangerous items.

Visitors to the static display received a child protection 2022 educational care pack, containing information guides on child protection, school bullying, cyberbullying, alcohol and drug dependency. A total of 1 250 brochures were distributed on the day.
