WATCH: Recipients awarded at Southlands SUN Absolute Best Readers Choice Awards 2022

Local business owners were proud to have been selected as the best choice by the readers.

THE readers have spoken and awardees at the Southlands SUN Absolute Best Readers Choice Awards 2022 were proud to have been honoured as they were announced as the best service and shopping experience across different categories.

The SUN also awarded Blayne Knight with the first SUN Hero Award. The managing editor of the RUN, Roelien D’Amico said, “It is often said that a person’s true character is revealed in times of trouble. I have learned that to be hailed a hero, that person must show great courage and must be admired for his achievements and noble qualities. I truly believe that the first recipient of the SUNs Hero award has these qualities. In the 2017 floods, he was the ‘Knight’ in shining armour when he pulled a father and child out of a car that was stuck in water.

“At a Durban North beach he assisted locals off the beach when the super tide hit Durban. And more recently, he risked his own life by jumping into a raging river with only a rope tied to his waist to rescue four strangers trapped under a bridge. Blayne Knight, a member of the Bluff RTL 8 team, is no stranger to lend a helping hand when it is needed. Blayne, you have been a Knight in shining armour to many people, tonight, the SUN would like to honour you with this small token of appreciation,” she said.

The event was held at the Bluff National Golf Club on Tuesday, June 7.
