GEOGRAPHY, history, science and nature, sport, entertainment and current affairs will be the focus of this year’s IIE’s Varsity College National High Schools’ Quiz.
There is a R100 000 reward for the smartest learners from grades nine to 11 including vouchers for their coaches or educators. Each regional winner will also receive a tablet.
Nala Wela, PR and events coordinator for IIE Varsity College Durban North, said the aim of the quiz was to inspire high school learners to expand their knowledge by engaging with various sources of information, both online and the more traditional.

“We encourage high school learners from grades nine to 11 to enter the quiz. Entries are available on our website and in various local newspapers,” she said.
The general knowledge quiz will take the form of a ‘Trivial Pursuit’ format, specially adapted for high school learners.
The initial round of the National High Schools’ Quiz will be held locally on each of the eight campuses of the IIE’s Varsity College campuses in August.
The top ten learners from each campus event will progress to each regional final, to be held in August as well. The top eight learners regionally will then advance to the national finals which will take place in October at the Durban North campus.
“We really enjoy hosting the National High Schools’ Quiz across our eight campuses annually and take pride in providing a platform for high school learners to display their love for knowledge and have it rewarded. Learners will again enter the quiz as individuals instead of as members of a team, with up to four members per school permitted,” said Louise Wiseman, managing director The IIE’s Varsity College.
Entries, available via www.varsitycollege.co.za, newspaper adverts and posters (QR Code), will close on June 30.
