DURBAN resident, Tyrone Ping recently launched his first book, A Field Guide to Snakes and Other Reptiles of KwaZulu-Natal.

He gave us some insight into the book on Episode 1 of our monthly Chat with Shiraz segment about his book and his passion for reptiles.

Ping said the field guide is the first of its kind for the region and showcases a comprehensive collection to all of reptiles in detail.

There are close to 170 species of snakes and reptiles found in KwaZulu-Natal which the book details with map locations, descriptions and colour photographs, many of which Ping snapped.

“I’ve spent most of the last 15 years documenting and helping out with reptile conservation. I wanted this book to be accessible to everyone but also provide a vital resource for tourists, campers, students and anyone else wanting to learn more about the fascinating diversity of reptiles in KwaZulu-Natal,” he said.
