Montclair teen shot and killed in mall

It is alleged that the security guard from the mall who tried to assist the children, fired a shot, which killed the teenager.

AN 18-year-old Woodlands resident was shot and succumbed to his injuries at Montclair Mall on Saturday, March 11. It is alleged that the deceased was fighting with the children at the Alex Bulley Swimming Pool when the deceased with his friends chased the children.

A source close to the investigation said the children tried to escape and ran towards Montclair Mall. According to the source, the children ran in different directions and two of them ran inside the mall. While they were in front of the shop, the deceased managed to grab one child, and held a knife against the child’s neck.

It is alleged that the security guard from the mall who tried to assist the children, fired a shot, which killed the teenager. Communications officer of the Montclair SAPS, Captain Derek Vijiam, said an inquest docket was opened and is being investigated at the Montclair SAPS.

“The docket has been taken to court and the media will be informed of any changes pending the details of the inquest investigation. Manager of the Montclair Mall, Jared Ridge, said the management team will release a statement one they have finalised their internal investigation.
