Montclair teacher bids farewell

Bid farewell to the bubbly Jackie Michel, as she starts her new journey.

“I HAVE stayed in Montclair all my life and I am very sad that I have to leave my comfort zone. But traveling and seeing the world has always been my thing, even though I am going to start afresh that side.”

This is what Jackie Michel, 40, said while getting ready to jet off to England for good after living in Montclair her whole life.

She was a Geography teacher at Mowat Park High School for 20 years, and also went to the same school in the late 90s. She now feels that she is ready for a new start in a whole new country.

Jackie was a shy person and did not talk much, she then joined Dramatic Art back when she was in high school. She said that boosted her confidence levels and today she oozes with confidence.

She started teaching Dramatic Art in 2003 and later taught Geography, she expressed that she loves children.

“I started teaching because I love children. I thought I was going to teach small children, however, the principal at Mowat Park High School called and offered me a position. I always have one on one with my learners and teach them about life, to get them ready for the challenges of the world. I tell them to set goals and be realistic, and to live within their means,” Jackie explained.

Jackie is part of the Yellowwood Park Women’s Club and is sad to leave all that she knows behind.

“My family and I have been part of the Yellowwood Park Women’s Club for many years, it is very strange to now leave all the relationships we have built behind. We always had each other’s back,” she said.
