THE last week of the month is always a busy one on the greens at Wentworth Bowling Club and bowlers are kept busy as they play the competitions which give them rewards.

Bowlers in the Spider’s breakfast trips played their two games in an effort to win the substantial prize money on offer. The second session went to the team skipped by the sponsor, Spider Williams, ably supported by Matt Lassak and Vic McCreanor. Second overall was Lew Scrooby’s team and the top spot on the podium was claimed by Ben Newton, Dave Carroll and Johan Nel with a healthy 4 +20 on their scorecard.

Friday’s Tomasina’s men’s casual bowls had Johan Nel back in the winner’s seat when he teamed up with Graham Bransby and DB Masson to claim the first prize. Ron Addinall and Albert van Niekerk took the second prize and Lew Scrooby, Herbie Roux and Rajen Pillay left with the sportsmen’s prize.

Sunday’s Big Jim was supported by the usual jovial crowd and the good cheer started with an early morning breakfast braai. The second session was won by Mike Hough, who partnered with Johan Nel, who must be declared the club’s bowler of the week. Second overall were Lew Scrooby and Johnny ‘Mooiman’ du Plessis with a 4+15 and a perfect 8 on their scorecard.

The scribe was threatened with extermination if mention is made of the team giving away the 8. In first place, with a convincing 4+28, were Simon Garland and Vic McCreanor.

The community is reminded of the Wednesday development bowls starting at 14:30 each week. New bowlers are welcome and should be at the club at 14:00 to register.
