WATCH: New committee to handle racism issues at Grosvenor high

Learners engaged with the MEC to restore order at the school.

THE KZN MEC for Education, Kwazi Mshengu, addressed learners at Grosvenor Girls’ High School earlier today after police dispersed ‘troublemakers’, donned in red EFF shirts, who disrupted the MEC’S visit.

A strong police contingency, together with local security personnel, manned the school’s gate after escorting out those who were not parents of learners, while the MEC eventually conveyed to learners a way forward to ‘solve the issue permanently.’

RCL chairperson, Nondumiso Simelane, took to the podium to express the grievances on behalf of the learners and explained to the MEC and his delegation why racism was rife in the school among both learners and staff, including the principal.

The MEC’s address follows a protest on Thursday, February 24, at the school where learners disrupted lessons and toy-toyed to attract attention to their plight of alleged racism.

A committee has been set up and will convene with finding a solution to the ongoing issues of racism after thoroughly interrogating the allegations and concerns of all parties involved.
