Bluff bowlers contest the final round of twilight bowls

The club hosts the East Coast bowls 2-4-2 newbie pairs competition on the weekend.

BLUFF Bowling Club’s recent men’s social bowls event was an enjoyable day, where fun was had by all, and culminated with the resident braai masters cooking up a delicious meal for all.

Fortunately the weather held and round two of the twilight trips was played in a healthy, competitive spirit and great sportsmanship was displayed. The team of Brian and Paula Osman and Wendy Fleetwood sit on top of the ladder with one more game to be played in the series.

The first round of the women’s open singles was also played in very hot windy conditions. Elize Stapelberg beat Louise du Plessis 21-8, but the result was no reflection on the great bowls played. Tabs in was also played where members had the opportunity to sharpen their skills.

The Motprop sponsored 2-4-2 was played last weekend, on a cloudless day. The members who attended enjoyed the camaraderie and good sportsmanship. The second session went to Brian Osman and Nic Nel, with Chad Wilson and Kevin Olivier claiming first prize after a count out between Robert Mhlongo and George Nel.

Looking at this weekend the club will host the East Coast bowls 2-4-2 newbie pairs competition which is a great initiative for new bowlers with less than four years experience, with prizes to the value of R1 000 to be won.

The club wish the women’s and men’s team well who have made it through to the last 32 in the Port Natal trips.

The weekend of March, 5 and 6 will see the annual Jawitz sponsored men’s fours being held at the club. It promises to be an exciting weekend of great bowls and entertainment with all the different clubs involved and everyone up for the challenge and competition.

Those interested in the game of lawn bowls can head to the club and experience the sportsmanship and bowling skills on display.

The club’s women’s novices battled it out in the 2022 singles novice final and the eventual winner was Daphne Fortuin who beat Janine Stadler 21-18 and a great game of bowls were played by them.

The women’s drawn four’s final was also played in very hot conditions. The team of Sarie Bisset, Wendy Fleetwood, Jay Retief and Dierdre Koekemoer beat Elize Stapelberg, Janice Rodgers, Daphne Fortuin and Glynis Mackrory 24-16.
