Girls and women encouraged to join Fynnland FC

The ideal age groups range from age five to over 35.

THE women’s side of the Fynnland Football Club is encouraging enthusiasts to join the team. The Bluff-based club is currently busy with pre-season training and aims to increase its dwindling numbers.

The ideal age groups range from age five to over 35. Talented players in senior open teams are offered opportunities to play for the club’s first and second teams. The club’s chairperson, Bianca Adams, said there is no waiting period for women and girls who are interested in joining. Players interested can come to our training sessions throughout the week and meet the relevant coaches.

“We register players according to their age groups. We charge a fixed per annum rate for subs and there are monthly coach fees. These prices include two training sessions per week and we allocate kit for games to all players,” she said. The club has played in Durban central leagues and the Professional Footballers Association (PFA). They also play in tournaments against other local teams. Some of the club’s successes include players making KZN teams. The official season starts at the end of March.

“We hope to enter teams in every age group to play in the PFA league and to get our football club back up to the high standard it once was,” she added. Coach Gordon Forbes-Harding, who has 23 years experience on the field, expressed his yearning for a women’s team. He said those wishing to join do not need to have playing experience.

“We need more women from the area, especially girls of school-going age. We’re looking at the ages of 13 and upwards.

“Although we have a senior team, there is a lot happening for the school-going children as there are a lot of tournaments for selected sides such as the provincial and regional. The most important thing is that we get the women’s teams up and running again,” he said.
