Visitors win at preseason friendly in Wentworth

Black Pool FC from Umlazi won 4-3 to Warriors FC.

NOT even the scorching Saturday, February 12, sun was as blazing as the fierce competition displayed at Ogle Road Sports Grounds.

In a series of friendly preseason games, Wentworth’s own Warriors FC, took on visitors Black Pool FC from Umlazi.

Chairperson of the ward 68 Sports Federation, Carl Webster, said the games played on the day formed part of the players’ training. He said the skills displayed by the vising team were impressive.

“We’re about five weeks before the season starts. We’re trying to find as much competition as possible. Black Pool FC is quite a strong team, they gave the boys a good challenge. The aim of the games is to play against a variety of opposition,” he said.

Three games in the divisions of U11, U13 and U15 were played on the day. The U13 game was the most spirited as both teams displayed excellent footwork.

Warriors coach Julian Louis said his team showed resilience towards the end of the game. “I’m happy with how the boys played the second half,” he said.

Black Pool coach, Philani Ngcongo, said although his team won the game, the opponents gave a good fight. “I’m really happy about how the boys played and the opponents we had. The boys performed brilliantly during the first half of the game, managing to score some goals.

“The other team kept us on our toes during the second half which I was also happy about because they showed us that they were worthy opponents,” he said. The final score was 4-3 in favour of Black Pool FC.
