Montclair crime in brief

Police are investigating various crime incidents that happened recently. If you have more information about any of these cases, report anonymously to CrimeStop on 086 001 0111.

A CASE of armed robbery was opened recently at the Montclair police station after a woman was held at gunpoint for her handbag and cellphone on Tuesday, February 1, at about 08:30.

She had was walking on Blamey Road in Montclair when she was approached by the driver of a white VW Polo with an unknown registration.

“The other occupant alighted the vehicle and attacked the victim by pointing a firearm at her. He demanded her handbag and thereafter grabbed hold of her cellphone. He returned into his vehicle and they sped off,” said Captain Derek Vijiam.

Carjacking

A MAN seated inside a stationary bakkie awaiting to attend to a client was robbed of the goods he was carrying on Tuesday, February 1, at about midday on Ronald Road. While waiting, he noticed four unknown men approaching and surrounding the bakkie.

“They were in possession of firearms. Two of these men jumped into the rear of the vehicle and the other two squeezed themselves in the front. They then drove off and stopped next to a Toyota bakkie, where they offloaded all the goods into the bakkie. They drove off with the goods,” said Vijiam.

Armed robbery and attempted murder

A SECURITY guard was on duty when he was shot at by unknown men on Wednesday, January 26, at about 11:15. He was at SJ Smith Hostel on Swinton Road in Montclair.

“He was joined by two unknown men who stood next to him. They suddenly attacked him by forcibly removing his firearm from his holster, shooting him and fleeing the scene. The guard was taken to hospital,” said Vijiam.

Carjacking

A DELIVERY man making rounds on Roland Chapman Drive in Montclair was held at gunpoint for his delivery vehicle on Wednesday, January 26, at about 11:15. He was approached by two unknown men who produced a firearm.

“While the firearm was pointed at him, they demanded entry into the vehicle. They took control of the vehicle and drove to Lamontville. They removed the parcels from the vehicle and loaded them into another vehicle. The suspects then left the scene,” said Vijiam.
