Montclair Junior learners hit all the right notes

Grade 3 learners at the school are learning the recorder and are enjoying it to the fullest.

MUSICIANS in the making are making all the right noises at Montclair Junior Primary School. The Grade 3 learners are hard at work learning the recorder.

Under the guidance of the music teacher, Heather Sumpton, and the principal Julie Jackson, the learners attend lessons before school.

Jackson describes the recorder group as having a shining light that brightens when they play together. While Sumpton said it is rewarding to teach enthusiastic musicians.

“The learners are keen and can almost always be found practising their notes at the music stands before the sessions start.

“Together, the eager group brings an angelic, star quality to their music which is enjoyed by the audience at assemblies and functions.

“We hope they will continue with their musical journey and share the pleasure of the music they play with others,” said the school’s librarian, Rozelle Munien.

Some learners attested to their enjoyment of the lessons. Kayden Kanotunga, Nosipho Nkabinde and Lindelwa Mthembu, said they enjoy playing for people and encouraging others to play instruments.

“Our favourite thing is learning new songs and making other children also play instruments. We enjoy the recorder because we get to learn more music and playing it is so fun,” they said.
