Power outages leave Bluff in the dark

The Brighton Beach area was left with no electricity for over 32 hours last week when five sub-substations were out from the previous day’s surges caused by loadshedding.

THE BLUFF has been on the receiving end of numerous, painstaking electricity outages recently.

According to ward 66 councillor, Zoë Solomon, this is a result of the surgence of the electrical supply due to loadshedding, causing issues with the already ageing infrastructure.

The Brighton Beach area was left with no electricity for over 32 hours when five sub-substations were out from the previous day’s surges caused by loadshedding.

Hedge Row, Dr Hoosen Haffajee Road, Nirvana Road, Marine Drive (Brighton Beach), Club Drive, Airlie Road and surrounds made up the affected areas.

“That fault was reported and escalated. It took a while but the underground Medium Voltage (MV) cable was eventually located on Thursday, November 11.

“The city’s electricity department advised me that the fault was at the main entrance driveway of the African Peninsula Guesthouse. It took most of Thursday morning but they did the digging to locate the cable, did the necessary repairs and reconnection was restored in the area.”

Solomon said while she was pleased to see maintenance being carried out on the Bluff, she advised residents to exercise caution during the ongoing outages and repairs as well as when cables are being replaced.
