SDCEA to take the streets on Global Africa Day

The march aims to raise awareness about the Climate Crisis and the need to move away from fossil fuels.

The South Durban Community Environmental Alliance (SDCEA) in collaboration with Ubunye Bama Hostela (UBH), Abahlali BaseMjondolo (ABM), Market Users Committee (MUC), Mtubatuba Community Environmental Justice Organisation (MCEJO), Anti-Pollution Watch Dog’s and Wentworth Communities will be host a Global Africa Day of Action on Friday, November, 5.

The group will embark on a march from Botha’s Gardens to City Hall in Durban. The march aims to raise awareness about the climate crisis and the need to move away from fossil fuels.

“We are concerned about our government’s decision to allow this exploration, which has the potential to destroy our tourism industry, recreational opportunities and marine life. This is about the ongoing struggle for environmental justice for the poor and marginalised people who continue to suffer from these blatant atrocities and will suffer from ill-health once these corporations begin drilling.

“We are expecting about 2000 at the march, as we have invited comrades from north and south of KZN who are seriously affected by mines and all other extractive production taking place in their back yards,” said SDCEA communications and media officer, Joanne Groom.

The organisation invites the public to participate in the initiative. The meeting point is at King DinuZulu Park (Botha’s Park) from 08:30. Covid-19 protocols will be observed. For more information call 031 461 1991.
