BRIGHTON Beach Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit in collaboration with Brighton Beach Corporate Communication Services hosted a pro-active rape awareness brochure campaign on Thursday, October 21.
The campaign was hosted at local schools within the policing precinct after the Department of Education expressed its concern regarding the sexual violation of learners within educational institutes.
Brighton Beach police spokesperson Captain Louise le Roux said although no such cases have been registered within the prescient, this revelation prompted a pro-active educational campaign.
Five local high schools were visited, resulting in 2123 educational brochures, researched and developed, by Le Roux distributed.
“These, through the support of educators, will be distributed to Grade 8 to 11 learners. The brochure explains what rape is as well as the various categories of rape and myths associated with this crime. Contact details of various support organisations were also provided,” said Le Roux.
She further urged the youth to act responsibly during this period and consider the repercussions of the choices they make.
