ONE man’s trash is another man’s treasure.
This is the essence of Princess Jasmine’s story, a previously neglected Goldendoodle, who brought love and filled a void in the Govender family.
The family hosted a lavish first birthday party for their princess, on Sunday, October 17 valued at over R10 000. The celebration consisted of the elaborate décor, a two-tier human cake, dog ‘pupcakes’ and iced biscuits, a custom made bandana and a bow with all the glitz and bling.
The precious pup was found on a property in Chatsworth with other pups who were in a bad and sickly condition.
“Jasmine’s parents were used for underhand breeding with her mum being in a despicable condition. My family and I had lost our dog of 17 years about four years ago and had no intention of getting another dog due to the pain and heartache of losing our beloved Peanut,” said owner, Evashnie Govender.
Hearing about the condition that Jasmine had been in, pulled at the family’s heartstrings and they decided to rescue her.
“When we found her she was in a terrible condition, my friend took one of the sisters and then my mums’ friend took another two, the two died a month later one after the other.
“Since Jasmine came into our life, she was instantly loved and become more and more popular as we posted photos on social media. We soon entered her into small competitions where she won a photoshoot for a high-end pet furniture company in Pretoria.
She has since been approached to do advertisements for stores and products due to her look and nature. Jasmine was also recently signed up to be an ambassador for Acana Pet food an international brand with world-class kitchens in Edmonton, Alberta and Auburn, Kentucky.
Goldendoodles, a rare breed in SA and a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle, are a highly affectionate crossbreed known for their intelligence and loyalty to their humans. Active and playful, doodles fit in well with families and are great for first-time dog owners.
Jasmine is a Yellowwood Park resident with her aunt based in Pretoria, so she frequently travels between the two places performing her roles as a home dog and a working dog.
